People have been wearing shoes for the last 26,000 years, so it shouldn't come as such a surprise that we are very good at making them. I wonder if 26,000 years ago they were classified as designer shoes?

The first Guild of shoemakers was formed in 1272, it was called the Guild of Cordwainers, it received it's Royal charter in 1439.
Over the next 550 years shoes have changed dramatically. Where once shoes were made for a purpose today the majority are made for fashion.
The well known fashion houses of Gucci, Christian Dior, Prada, Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein all have exquisite shoe lines as do Jimmy Choo, Salvatore Ferragamo, Coach and Dolce and Gabbana and these are only the tip of the iceberg, the list is endless.
The cost of designer shoes can range from £100 to how much you can afford, for example a pair of shoes from Prada can cost £300 to £600, a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti women's shoes cost over £700.
Shoes today are a statement of who the wearer is, what sort of person they want people to think they are. It is said that some people can write a book on a person they never met by the shoes they wear, right down to whether they would make a good partner or not.
So the next time you are out buy shoes be careful because you never know who is watching, judging and interpreting what you are saying by the shoes you are wearing.
